A Resonance Calendar

Sources that have caught my attention and from which I’ve taken away something (that feels) important. In other words, something that resonates.
A few links and with an excerpt from each.

Data Coalitions

I was particularly impressed and/or unsettled by the first post in this list about data coalitions. I recommend that you read it slowly.

In this essay, addressed to the reader from 2022, I will depict and defend an attractive, feasible vision for the future of the data economy.
The law established a new class of organizations called data coalitions to redress the…

IPFS

The InterPlanetary File System is a protocol and peer-to-peer network for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. IPFS uses content-addressing to uniquely identify each file in a global namespace connecting all computing devices. [InterPlanetary File System — Wikipedia]

Data Engineering

7 concepts of databases every data engineer should know

I will try to explain 7 main concepts of databases as easy as possible. These concepts are:

1. relational model
2. data normalization
3. primary and foreign keys
4. indexes
5. transactions

The New Data Engineering Stack

Here, I am going to talk about the technologies which are too important to ignore. You don’t have to master all of them. That’s not possible, anyway. It is important to be aware…

Data Policy

There is untapped potential in data that, if harnessed in a rights-respecting manner, could have positive implications for helping to solve societies’ biggest problems or creating new economic value.

Currently, though, much of the data needed to tackle these pressing challenges remains siloed within both public and private sources. At the same time, many jurisdictions, both in the real and digital world, lack comprehensive data…

Preparation, Data and Actionable Information

It occurred to me as I woke up early this morning that the proximity of Taiwan to mainland China should make it an early target for 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

The image that came to mind as I woke up was that of a large passenger ship, anchored just off the coast of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). I thought about its population (~ 23M), the population density and social proximity in its cities and industry, the levels of international travel for people, and international transport for materiel and manufactured goods — particularly with the PRC! My immediate assessment was…

How I may have sneaked past that always-on editor of mine.

Preface

I’ve been avoiding blogging … actually, I’ve been avoiding writing … in the months past, and this must stop. It is not for lack of ideas, insights, questions and issues worth raising. In fact, it’s the incredible number of quick notes and long ramblings I’ve collected that intimidates me.

Dealing with the Editor

There’s also my dilemma as a writer who feels it necessary to edit (at least in my head) pretty much every blog post, journal article, and presentation deck I encounter. I find it almost impossible to put that aside when I am looking at a piece of text on a screen.
